High school student interns from The Place, a local nonprofit supporting Forsyth and Dawson Counties, spent the afternoon at the courthouse learning about careers in the justice system.
The visit included presentations from several departments, including the Clerk of Court’s Office, the Office of Court Administration, Pretrial Services, Felony Probation and Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit.
Judge Smith welcomed the students into his courtroom to observe live proceedings, shared his own career path, and answered their questions with specific advice on skills to develop that would help them succeed in their future careers. A highlight of the day was a live demonstration by the Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, where students saw firsthand the skills and training of these specialized teams.
This courthouse visit aimed to inspire the students to consider careers in public service and to foster a deeper understanding of how the court system works to serve the community.
